Dining Room Progress

I’m thrilled to finally be able to share this project with you all. I’ve always wanted to create a beautifully styled console moment and with a large blank wall in our new home, I knew just what to do with it. Read along to find out more about the process and where I sourced from.

For me it all starts with inspiration. These are some of my all time favorite designers and I’ve had these images saved for years. We didn’t have the space in our last house for a project like this, so I was quite excited to make it work in our current home.
I revisit what inspires me from time to time and determine what elements from the design that I love. Obviously from the Mark D. Sikes it was the wall color and of course all the blue and white. From Caroline Gidiere, I knew I wanted to incorporate woven baskets and symmetrical lamps. The picture placement of Meg Braff really resonated with me and Sarah Bartholomew’s table styling (and frankly everything she does) had an impact on me. Each designer incorporated greenery and life to their designs, which really puts the icing on cake.

Here's where we started, breathtaking right? Nothing like a random bench and some nasty sconces to get you motivated. We walk through this space constantly, so I wanted it to be one of our first projects in our new home. This wall is right at the bottom of our stairs to the second floor, so it’s a high traffic area in our daily lives.

Above you can see the progression as I began collecting items. Keep in mind I always knew we’d be painting the walls green, so once I was comfortable with the color selection I began choosing the decor pieces accordingly.

Table and side chair - I started things off with my first ever Facebook Marketplace finds. This console was my first pick up. I like it and knew I wanted a wood traditional piece. To be perfectly honest, I’m not head over heels with it, so be prepared if it changes at some point. My next Facebook Marketplace find was this vintage rattan side chair. I love it’s light tone and woven seat. I knew that I just had to incorporate Mark D. Sikes Santa Barbara ikat into this vignette and adding a throw pillow on this chair would be the perfect way. Head to Pop of Color on Etsy for an extensive collection of well priced designer fabric pillows.
Wall art- These are actually quite the mixture! The hydrangea prints were found at a local antique shop. They’re so simple and beautiful and they used to hang in the master bedroom of our previous house. The smaller fruit prints I actually found on Amazon along with the gold frames!

Mirror- Next up was this stunning wood and inlay mirror from The Local Vault. TLV a CT based online marketplace for new and pre-owned luxury home furnishings and decor. They give shoppers access to exclusive brands, to-the-trade only pieces, bespoke furniture, unique and fabulous vintage and antique finds. I had the opportunity to tour their warehouses a couple months back and this mirror stopped me in my tracks. I originally thought I wanted a large antique gold mirror, but once I laid eyes on this one I knew I need something different and a conversation piece. Basket- I just love all things Mainly Basket Home and Dashing Trappings carries a great selection of their products. They have such a fun curated collection of home furnishings and accessories that will add some unique flare to your home. Stay tuned for a collaboration with them coming soon.

Lampshades and ottomans- The finishing pieces were thanks to The Inside. I was drawn to the brand for their wide selection of designer fabrics at reasonable prices and with their variety of products there is something for everyone and every style. I chose their linea ikat print for the shades and the blue Baldwin bamboo fabric by Scalamandré for the ottomans.

So there it is! We’re very happy with how it turned out. As I mentioned earlier, I like this table - not love. So don’t be surprised if you see me tinkering with this space from time to time, but that’s the fun part right?
