Family Room Renovation

Here’s another fun transformation for you! And this time it’s our family room. This project was the most visually challenging for me. I tend to think I have a good eye when it comes to seeing the end result, even in the midst of construction chaos, but this room was tricky given the layout.

When we purchased the home, our current family room was a dining room with a narrow door frame connecting it to the kitchen (see below). I’m all for a dining room next to the kitchen, makes sense right? But in the end, I wanted an open concept feel for our family room off of the kitchen since these are the rooms that we spend most of our time in.

In order to archive this, we needed to open up the walls and take out some kitchen cabinetry. After I had gotten the green light from our contractor that this would be doable, I started scheming a design plan.
Here are some BEFORE images to give you a sense of what I was dealing with-

As soon as that row of kitchen cabinets came out, it started coming together! I knew the room would be slightly narrow for our club chairs, but I was able to overlap into the kitchen a bit and we love the end result as it helps pull the rooms together. Hope you enjoy!
